Another meeting of the Hopwas Torch Relay working group was held on May 1st to discuss plans for the Torch Relay on Saturday June 30th. The A51 through Hopwas will be closed from 9.30 on the morning of June 30th and will reopen after the Torch Relay has gone through, at approximately 10.30. The Torch Relay arrives at the top of Hopwas Hill at 10.08 and proceeds down to the bridge and from there to Tamworth, while support vehicles are diverted via Plantation Lane.
Local children and club leaders will meet at the Social Club from 8.30, parking will be available there until after the Relay, but access along School Lane will not be possible during the event. The children’s torches will be judged, followed by a presentation of prizes to winners. Children will then be taken by the adults to Lichfield Crescent to watch the Relay. The organisers hope that the public will turn out to cheer on the runners and celebrate the event. Some organisations are likely to be providing refreshments.
The next meeting for groups involved will be on 19th June at Thomas Barnes School at 7pm.
